The New Dominican Republic

gdp.jpg What a charming little mindfuck that is. Someone took GDP data for each state in the US and mapped an equivalent country across the nation. There’s just something vaguely intriguing about the resulting map.

Equally incredible is this little toy built with some kind of google-fu back-end Flash data cruncher. Very slick way to massage otherwise boring data series into eye candy that makes it incredible simple to visualize changes in complex data over time. It’s enough to make Edward Tufte cry with joy. Apparently, there’s now an abundance of recently released data available to play with.
